Bandit Fixing 3 of 3 Reflection (Optimizing, Finalising +Summary)

What did you do this week?

So with the bandit and his clothes all overlapping and retopogized properly, I still had one final, glaring issue with the character before I could think about rigging and animating: stopping the overlapping. The reason I'm doing this is that when there are polys inside another mesh that the 3D artist can guarantee nobody will see, those hidden poly become wasteful, especially on a high poly mesh, when it comes to processing and performance in a game!

What was I pleased with?

Honestly, I'm really impressed with how the mesh looks now compared to when I started, and how I've gotten the mesh to be more condensed polygon-wise whilst also maintaining the detail.

What have I learned?

Though the process mainly involved looking through the mesh and using both translation and deletion tools to find unnecessary polys to cull, I still had a refreshing experience working in the wireframe view as opposed to constantly looked at the default sold view. It was also a stepping stone in mesh preservation, making sure I didn't remove or move anything that could alter or deface the mesh of its original look or quality!

What would I do next time?

One thing that I realized too late, that I'm now kicking myself for, is how the new optimized model for the bandit has been changed in such a way I can't go back to using it if I ever wanted to use it for a high-to-low poly normal map baking. I'm not too worried about this though, seeing as substance painter has an option in the bake settings to use the low poly model and normal information to generate the appropriate foundations for decent texturing, though it probably wouldn't be as detailed as desired.

Summary
So with the Bandit Mesh complete, I feel ready to engage in the rigging process which will hopefully leave me ready to animate for our game in the next few weeks!
