This week I focused my efforts on creating the assets for the hardest shot in the animation. so that next week I can animate the camera and robot, render it out and compile it in my After Effect Project. What I worked on first was the building that's zoomed into in the storyboard before eventually focusing on the robot.
I'm impressed with how I managed to captivate the perspective of the storyboard (at least during the latter half) using real-life reference images from London near Baker Street Station. here's the reference I used for the building:
I did end up using the same perspective captured from this reference to match the "robot building" vignette in the third/fourth panels. I also like how well the buildings ended up looking, actually somewhat matching the current architecture (though if anyone asks why it looks different, I can just pin it on the fact it's based in 2060).
What I learnt from this experience was firstly how to capture perspective better using BLAM, mainly by defining which axis you want the lines to follow. Now since I started using the plugin I've been using the default settings, even when my lines of perspective that follow along the Y and Z are set to X and Y. whoops.
What I'd do differently next time, if I had more time to flesh out the street and produce a proper recreation, would be to actually have the scene match up with both the image reference as well as the dystopian version I illustrated in my storyboard.
